Honestly I don't give a hoot one way or another! One benefit would be the taxes.

Big Pharm. has too much to loose to let this get legalized. Gov. would have to find something else to have issues with. Crime would go down, and tax revenue up. Hemp products like rope and rugs might be more available. Those who have pain/seizures etc. might have some relief without the horrid side effects of the chemical drugs. There is huge support from health care providers that this should be available. States should have control of their own regulations. Like ETOH, it can be legalized and used much the same way.
I have never used it, but I have seen the results from it in children with seizure control issues. They are able to function and are not all doped up. This is not the gateway drug it has been made out to be. Oxycodone given out by MD for pain has been the leading cause of drug additions. (75%). When I see drug bust by police for Marijuana, I cringe. The movement to decriminalize marijuana is moving forward. It is only a matter of time.

We are getting ready to legalize it in Canada. From what I hear that is supposed to happen in the Spring. The war on the drug has done more harm than good. The enforcement and punishment of people for smoking weed is ridiculous. By it being illegal it funds organized crimes more serious endevours. Pot is not a gateway drug. Heck alcohol and tobacco are far more evil and addicting than pot. Im not a user of the drug but have been so I speak from experience and support legalization if done the correct way. The downside is that it gives our youth a false sense that its ok to get high and that I dont support. If there is one fact out there that I believe in is that pot negatively affects a growing mind and people under the age of 21 or 23 (cant remember when the brain stops its development) should not smoke it. The conversations around my house with my kids have been a bit challenging on this subject but open and honest. I never thought I would see the day....

Not a user, but I live in WA where it is legal.

It is a relatively safe drug, probably between coffe and cigarettes on the danger scale. The smoke is almost certainly bad for the lungs, but I believe THC is safer than nicotene. It is non-addictive, and frankly should not be illegal. Too many lives have been destroyed by this war on drugs, I suspect it is more than the lives destroyed by drugs themselves.

I anticipate that in time it will prove to beneficial fore more and more medical issues.

Again, not a user, despite living in a state where it is legal.

The part I worry about is driving while impaired. There is enough mayhem on the roads due to alcohol, other drugs and I-Phones. Now, people are going to have to contend with another intoxicant that can potentially take out innocent lives..................:picard:

I think that they will tax it because they can not necessarily to control behavior. A good example would be sales tax, it definitely has no impact on my wifes shopping habits!

Taxes don't control behavior. It's a scam for more tax revenues. They find it easier to tax things that are less likely to have a positive impact, or are addictive. That's why in NY they can charge up to $11.50 for a pack of cigarettes. There is a 40% tax on other tobacco products, if I'm not mistaken. Booze is taxed highly too. They call these taxes a "Sin Tax." And that makes it more acceptable.

Well, I stated I'd respond, so here it goes...
First- I don't smoke it. Haven't for close to 30 yrs. I do know plenty of people that do, though.
When legalization was on the ballot, I voted "yes". I voted for the taxation on the growers and retailers, regulated by the State. Taxed proceeds to go towards schools or some/such. I've not been able to verify that though. But I've not seen a ballot issue to increase taxes for schools in the last 12 months. I'll have to dig into it.
In very general terms, the legalization of marijuana in Colorado is a conundrum.
There has been an influx of people moving in for the benefit of being able to use it legally. Some are just stoners, pure waste of space. But,..there are others.
Some of these people have legit. reasons. Combatting the side effects of chemo. or radiation therapy. That's a big one. Anti-anorexia treatment, not common but I've seen it. Epilepsy- a friend of mine moved up here over 2 years ago. His wife was prone to epileptic seizures in TX. Now she can utilize marijuana to help her condition, she hasn't had a episode in close to 24 months. Good for her! but I'm not sold on this.
I could go on about these interactions .....
I sell Co2 to growers almost daily. I ask, they tell me what they're growing. Some of them get into so much detail about the process it's incredible.
CDC and THC are different animals. From what I've gathered, CDC's are mostly beneficial(health benefits), THC's are mostly beneficial(to get high). Your call...
    Conundrum...... ;)

Here in NY (economical dump)everything is taxed or regulated, they ban something then sell it or give you the "privilege" or doing/having it. Basically legalized theft.

On topic, I dont like drugs personally, But I take a libertarian stand on it, even though fruitcakes seem to take the same stand.
