around a 10 acre field when you have a single bottom plow and a small Kubota tractor! I think I am taking a whopping 16 inch cut for every trip I make, and when the field is 1000 feet long, and four hundred and seventy five feet wide, it is going to take at least 178 trips around the field to get it done. It would not be that bad if I did not have quite a few skidder ruts that went nearly to the Indian Ocean. I even thought about buying a two bottom plow at Tractor supply just to make things faster, but run with what you got I guess, so I have been. It is a pretty good project though, I got a grant to redo a corn field and put it back into grass which includes fertilizer and lime up to soil sampling requirements, then sowing down into red clover, timothy and oats for the new grass/grain mix. Then up the center will be a 475 foot long road, 20 feet wide so I can gain access to a couple of fields up above, and to haul wood out across. It is a truck haul road so it has to be stout and hold up. Then a couple of swales on each side of the road, and on each end of the field to make sure soil does not end up downstream. Most of this work I can do myself with my bulldozer and excavator saving me a lot of money, and the gravel will be coming out of my own pit as well, but I really under the gun to get it done as it has to be seeded down by June 15th! That is why you have not seen a lot of me lately. Between killing trees and busting sod, there have been a lot of longggggg days.
