Have a few of these though out my woods they drop little blue berries every few years. I have tried looking it up but no luck so I came to the wood experts

It could be black gum aka tupelo. I found these dried berries near a roadside wood score couple weeks back. Looked like raisins. Later learned it was black gum. IMG_0934.JPG

As George Carlin once said, "just because it's a blue berry, doesn't mean it's a blueberry"

My first reaction was it's a cinch it's black gum. Birds eat the berries too. Down here, and in your bark picture, the bark is distinctively like an alligator's back on large, mature trees. By the way, it doesn't split good at all. Tough, gnarly splits. I don't know how it burns, I gave up. Now, sweetgum, burns with a bad odor.
