4 houses down the street from me. Literally a 12 second drive. I heard the chainsaws going yesterday and thought to myself that's probably my tree service buddy and sure enough it was! I drove by to get dinner and saw him there. These are the limbs. 10"-20" bucked by them and I happened to show up just as they were cutting it down. Perfect timing. Took 1.5 truckloads.
Last fall was my first experience with Tulip (Yellow) Poplar. Some people won't waste their time with it but I happen to like the stuff. Dries fast and feather-light. Burns fast too and can pop quite a bit but I think it makes decent shoulder season fuel. It's kept a lot of homes warm throughout the burning season.
I pretty much take what I can get. If it's elm, cottonwood, or super knotty and crotchy, I won't take it. But nice clean limbs like this I'm all in. I haven't burned any poplar yet but I did score a huge 32" trunk last year which could be burned this winter. We shall see. Didn't get too much, maybe 1 cord, but excited to see how it does. Like all the softwoods I'm sure it will be great to get the fire going and the shorties will be made into kindling. Can't ever have too much kindling! Beautiful stack! I have a rack like that inside the house right next to the fireplace. Cookies and sawdust. What a lovely combination!
