Two Homelite XLs and a McCulluch 10-10 pro? Supposedly they ran when put away several years ago, but do not run now.
I've owned 2 Homelite saws...probably getting on 25 years ago now. My experience with them says that unless you want a couple of new anchors for your canoe, don't bother. IF I could get them running, they weren't too bad. I absolutely needed a saw one winter for the cottage. We shut down the water and blew out the pipes every winter, so if we went up, we had to figure out another source. Myself and a few friends decided to spend a couple days up there in February. One of the guys bought a new snowmobile, and wanted to try it out in my neck of the woods. My solution to flushing the toilet was to cut a hole in the ice and bring water up in 5 gallon buckets. I had a suspicion that my issue with the one saw was carb related. I bought a new carb and brought it with me. I put it on and the saw started right up. No power at all, but it did cut a hole in the ice for me. That was it....the next spring, I figured I'd do a little clean up around the yard. Nope...same hard/no start issue was back. I threw the saw in the trailer we use for hauling garbage and it never bothered me again. LOL. The other saw died shortly after my dad bought it. He put it in the attic over the garage, and I haven't seen it since. For all I know, it's still there.
The 1968 Homelite Super XL "Farm Saw" that my father cut wood with for about 40 years, is now a permanent shelf resident. No way I would pay money to acquire any of those saws. Now if someone had a big (say, >100 cc) Homie or Mac, I'd be all over that for fifty bucks.
If you like Homelite saws then yes but for my self I would probably pass on these. I have some Homelite's already and these would not add anything special.
Yeah, I passed. My buddy who lives out in LaGrange is home for a few weeks. He might be able to bring them to you?
Well LaGrange is not far away but thank but no thanks. Now if your buddy finds a Poulan 5200 or a Poulan 505 I would be happy to take you up on your offer. Is your buddy heating with wood this year.
No, he works for Frontier Bible college and has a home with utilities provided. He's coming over to my place to cut tomorrow though. We have a long history of cutting together. We sold firewood together back in high school.
Well if he ever wants to go do some cutting you can send him my way. I will be more than happy to put him to work.
If you ever see one of these Homelites for $50, grab it. Contrary to what others may say, they did make many saws that were all business when it came to cutting wood. For the vintage, and if you are into running old ones, these 58cc saws are the real deal. The sleeper saws of muscle.
I loved my sxl homelites. They worked incredibly well, were loud, vibrated and best of all noone ever borrowed one! That said after using a newer saw its hard to go back to the old super xl. I do enjoy the heck out of my homelite 1050 however.
