Hello Also 115 VAC or 230 VAC? They said the 230 VAC units start easier and the motor lasts a bit longer? Investigating Air Conditioners for the workshop and there is alot to research! The chart below seems to indicate what size air conditioner might be needed for a particular room size In my case there may be 2 peoples and it is sunny so I figure a 10k BTU may be a good size Consumer Energy Center - Window Air Conditioners So here is what I found for different styles The two basics which are easy to find in most stores. LG 10K BTU Window Unit $299.00 LG Electronics 10,000 BTU Window Air Conditioner with Remote-LW1015ER - The Home Depot LG 10K BTU portable unit $319.00 LG Electronics 10,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner and Dehumidifier Function with Remote Control in White (62.4 Pint. /Day)-LP1014WNR - The Home Depot What do you prefer? Obviously the portable where you stick the flex hose in the window and the window units are the easy install. However the look and room they take up are not appealing. :-( The all in one slide out chassis is more available and easy to pick up. Frigidaire 10K Slide out chassis $599.00 Shop Frigidaire 10,000-BTU 450-sq ft 115-Volt Wall Air Conditioner at Lowes.com However when it does wear out, it maybe hard to get an exact fit replacement. The Thru The Wall units have a more protective sleeve and they say a bit more rugged. LG 10K BTU Thru the Wall on Sale $449.00 - 230 VAC - Reg Price 539.99 save $90.99 ;-) LG LT1036CER 10,000 BTU 230V Through-the-Wall Air Conditioner with Remote Control - Walmart.com LG Thru the wall sleeve or case $109.00 LG Wall Air Conditioner Sleeve | HD Supply I am leaning toward the last one - Thru the Wall Energy Efficiency Rating EER = 10.7 very close to one of the highest rating of 11.3 that I have seen in a 10K unit for a yearly cost of $80 This one pictured below has an Average Yearly Cost to Run = $83 LG LT1036CER 10,000 BTU 230V Through-the-Wall Air Conditioner with Remote Control See Pic below Click pic to Enlarge:
Hi I did see a 120 volt that had a higher EER rating but the 230 vac makes the motors start easier and they do start and stop ALOT so for longevity the 230 vac AC unit really seems like a much better bet!! This 230 vac unit was much harder to get! I could have picked up a slide out chassis or window mount a lot easier! Also no Pain No Gain so I really believe I made the best choice and right now the shop is really DRY and COOL !!!!
