Not much going on in January so far except for this dead pine getting reduced in the outdoor fireplace. I was telling Backwoods Savage that I've gotten rid of 12 - 16 dead pine since I started this job around the house, it's a good start.
It looks like overnight we'll start warming up so I plan on taking down another dead pine tomorrow near a new trail I made in late December. Some tops for the deer would be nice, I have one rotting at the base Maple and two smaller Ash that will come down either later tomorrow or the next day, the deer should be all over those. Our high today was -2.9 with a low of -15 this morning.
It was tough work eating this but when the wife cooks it, ya better eat it, this was my work for the day. The wife made some meat loaves tonight, I made the spaghetti sauce the other day. We saw this on a cooking show on TV, it turned out real good. Ingredients · 1/2 CUP BREAD CRUMBS · 1/3 CUP MILK · 1 1/2 POUNDS MEATLOAF MIX (BEEF/PORK/VEAL) · 1 LARGE EGG, BEATEN · 1/2 CUP FINELY CHOPPED RED BELL PEPPER · 1/2 CUP GRATED ZUCCHINI · 3/4 CUP GRATED GRANA PADANO, PLUS MORE FOR SERVING · 3 SCALLIONS, FINELY CHOPPED · 6 TABLESPOONS CHOPPED FRESH ITALIAN PARSLEY · 2 CLOVES GARLIC, FINELY CHOPPED · KOSHER SALT AND FRESHLY GROUND BLACK PEPPER · 2 TABLESPOONS EXTRA-VIRGIN OLIVE OIL · 3 CUPS PREPARED MARINARA SAUCE · 1 CUP GRATED PROVOLONE Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Combine the bread crumbs and milk in a large mixing bowl and let sit 5 minutes to rehydrate. Add the meatloaf mix, egg, bell pepper, zucchini, 1/2 cup Grana Padano, the scallions, 1/4 cup parsley, and the garlic. Season with 1 1/2 teaspoons salt and a generous grinding of black pepper. Form into 4 (4-inch long) oval meatloaves. Heat a large cast-iron or ovenproof nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add the olive oil. When the oil is hot, add the meatloaves and brown all over, about 3 minutes per side. Pour in the marinara. Cover and bake until bubbling, about 15 minutes. Uncover, sprinkle with the provolone and the remaining 1/4 cup grated cheese, and bake until the meatloaves are crusty and cooked through, about 20 to 25 minutes more. Sprinkle with the remaining 2 tablespoons parsley and a dusting of grated cheese and serve.
After doing some plowing with the tractor, we put in some ash with the old Polaris Indy Trail. Hopefully the four loads we put in will fill a 4 x 4 rack or come close.
A neighbor down the road that I plow their driveway offered me money, I said no but food is good, today they delivered a homemade Apple pie, it's excellent.
Thanks Woodwidow , since we have a bunch of dead pine on the property, we made it bigger too burn the worst of the pine up.
I haven't done an awful lot this year, compared to last year, but I have collected about 2 cords of wood. I also built this new rack to store 1- 1/2 cords in. I'm not done cutting wood yet.
Looks great stihl kicking , it all adds up so the two cord is a great addition to the firewood inventory.
It seems the only work going on around here is putting in firewood, we're burning ash with a round of ironwood at night. The first three pictures are Morning Maple Muffins, the wife made the first batch which didn't last long and then under her watchful eye, I made the second batch. Our one neighbor that had made us an apple pie brought up a homemade cherry pie for some plowing I did, that tasted great with some ice cream.
Na, we saw it on our local news on a segment called Mr. Food, the only thing we changed was the topping, we had a mixture of cinnamon and brown sugar sprinkled on the tops before we baked them. Morning Maple Muffins
They're very good Backwoods Savage , we'll be making another batch soon.....I'll eat what we set aside for U!
I'm doing good on my weight buZZsaw BRAD , instead of being 234 plus, I weighed in at 211 yesterday but I had my last slice of cherry pie with ice cream yesterday. I was hoping the ice would be gone underneath the snow but we keep getting some snow at night, we received another 1.5 last night with another possible system hitting the east coast later this week. I guess it's time to look for some dead pine in an area that's flat and not on a hill so I can get going.
Better than myself. Had my physical a month ago. 240lbs. prediabetic, got a scrip. Dr said to lose 10% body weight. Just weighed in at 228. Woohoo! What is the current snow cover? When will you see all the snow gone?
Good on dropping some weight. The areas I was around today maybe 2 inches but the ice underneath is what I worry about. We have ash on the hill in the back that need felling so I'll wait until the ice is gone. Hopefully by the end of March the snow & ice is gone but I'll start on something before that.
