We are very close to ordering our stove and we were set on beating the March 15 deadline on their sale. I talked to Woodstock before we bought the house and we started a "pre-order", I guess you can call it. No deposit made yet. Got an email today saying the sale is through the end of March now. That's a relief since we just paid our down payment and closing costs on the house last week. Those couple extra weeks make a big difference in picking the right combo and settling the details. Just thought I'd pass it on to anyone who may be looking at a new Woodstock.
Not sure what else you have had but I'm guessing you are going to love this one. Which are you ordering?
Started with, and still have, a cheap US Stove in a detached garage, Hearthstone Clydesdale insert, Jotul Oslso and we are ordering the Ideal Steel. It will be our first cat stove. We have a finished basement with a wide open staircase right in front of the stove location. Insulation guy comes tomorrow for a quote. If we can get the house sealed up and insulated we will be installing the IS in the basement. I know it's risky, but I'll gamble on the location. If it doesn't work well I'll relocate it to the upstairs fireplace, or just add an insert up there at some point.
What kind of chimney system do you have going to the basement? Before you have somebody start blowing insulation in, take a careful look if the attic needs to be air sealed. That is often overlooked because insulation guys don't like doing it.
We have a rebate program from our gas supplier. In order to get the rebates the house is air sealed first. The estimate tomorrow is for air sealing, main level walls, attic and exterior basement walls. This house is basically a 1956, uninsulated ranch. The rebates are substantial and go directly to the contractor. Our bill will be minus the rebates. Neighbor just had everything, but the basement done, in a 1450 square foot house for $1800. I believe his attic was blown to R38. We have a first floor fireplace but no chimney in the basement for the stove location. I'll be boring the wall and going up the side of the house with Class A chimney.
