I made a connection last spring through Craigslist, and that guy and I have become friends. Issue is he sells firewood for a living, and just bought a bells 4000 processor and log truck, cutting nonstop two miles from my house. It’s bizarre, but I don’t have to scrounge so I feel grateful, but I also loved the random wood I would get within an hour of here. Buzz saw Brad still seems to find more scrounges, than most loggers can find logs. Anyone else here end up in this position with new Connections ? He can cut my entire years need in a day, and it would cost me about what I paid for the MS500. Hope all have a great day!!

But that $1500 savings per year is what drives me to burn wood in the first place. I haven't paid for the wood but the darn addiction to chainsaws (and hot-rodding them) is a thing, :loco: .

So what's he charging you for a cord? Is it premium stuff or is he using you as a place to get rid of less desirable wood?
Oh and those Bell's 4000 machines are awfully impressive!

I dont know what id do if that happened to me as i enjoy scrounging so much. Does this mean youll be selling off your chain saw collection? What happened to your half track? Miss seeing that in action.

I make connections here and there. Lots of folks know i "do firewood/ chain saws" so get contacted for such now and then.

It’s a time vs money thing, seems lately my time is in short order. If I could get wood for beer money, I would certainly :makeitrain".

In another thread buZZsaw BRAD may have said the price he sells a pickup load of hardwood the is c/s/s for 2 years. A pickup load of spruce in log is $200 here and it hard to find anyone doing it.

I sold the half track a few months ago. I did well on it, so I couldn’t resist. Keeping my saws and most likely will cut my trees, and just buy his over 22 inch logs. If I help him once in a while the logs are pretty much free. While I love the processor, I burn huge wood compared to most. Keeps me outside and healthy. I do however like the idea of cutting all of my wood in a day if I had to though. I simply do not have to scrounge anymore, which is odd for me.

And what follows that is chainsaw modding madness and chainsaw bar acquisition and chain hoarding... slippery slope.

If we are talking about addictions , may as well mention those sharp axe things some of us use to split wood sometimes.

Milling is limited right now, but I make a few boards from time to time. I enjoy the milling aspect as I have little use for the wood. I am saving select rounds for making cutting boards, bowls and other stuff right now. A2773EED-8F1F-41B7-A7C8-213E644D80F7.jpeg

I completely agree, I Loathe PAYING for Firewood, the $20/Cord for the Forest Circus permit is barely tolerable, much prefer FREE Scrounges, but the Scenery is usually much better cutting on the Forest Circus permits

Fortunately, the sound of the saws, tends to keep these guys, and other wildlife away while cutting

Surprisingly, we see more of Yogi, and other wildlife in our neighborhood, than we do out in the Woods. My Wife is a Hairstylist, and this picture was taken in the backyard of one of her clients that lives near her Salon. It didn’t end well for the Bird feeder

I don’t (haven’t YET, any;)) mod my saws, but, HLSupply had a sale with some Good prices on Sugi bars, so I recently got new new light weight bars for all my .325 and 3/8 pitch saws.

Team .404, is going to have to make do with the bars I have, a pair of Oregon 36”, and 44”, 60”, and 72” GB bars that I am Happy with so far. I’m not sure but I don’t recall seeing any Sugi bars over 36”, and the 36” balance well on the Team .404 Powerheads, with the 44” being a bit nose heavy, but definitely manageable, the 60” and 72” are just for milling any way, and a light weight bar may not be rigid enough for milling

Oh and on the chains, I don’t even want to think about how many chains that I have, or what I have spent on chains,

I do understand about pitch and gauge, but some of the other descriptions about chain I still need to learn more about. A lot of guys rattle of chain brand designations, like RSX??? That mean absolutely nothing to me

I know enough to get chain that is compatible with my saws, but not always enough to know which chain is best suited to what I am cutting
