Grabbed this few weeks back at the garage where I work, little cherry mixed in at the bottom but the top rounds I wasn't sure what it was? Kinda looked like Mulberry to me a bit but am not great at this wood ID stuff. Thanks in advance!

Bark looks like white walnut aka as butternut. Are those cut ends wet? I don't recall the heartwood being that dark when I've cut it.

Split a few and check for a center pith. IIRC correctly WW has a chambered center pith.

If it is it dries fast and splits easily. Low BTU but free is free.

You'll know mulberry once you cut it as the bright yellow mustard color wood is unmistakable. It weathers to a dark brown.

    Thanks much :handshake:

These have been sitting for a good while over at the garage yard (up off the ground). Once this weather breaks a bit I'll be doing some chopping.......

No those ends should be dry and dark like that when I snagged them.

I am not knowledgeable about many trees, and didn't know white walnut existed. I think I'm burning some tonight. It's noticeably heavier than black walnut. 20260113_164444.jpg 20260113_164428.jpg

Thinking yours might be ash. Not 100% sure though. WW is rather light when dry.
