Any idea what species this might be? This tree blew down in my backyard during a hurricane a few months ago. Was standing dead, bark is falling off of it. It's relatively light weight considering the size of the rounds, maybe ~2 feet in diameter at the base. Part of the tree is still standing so took a picture of the bark visible in that area. I thought might be sycamore? We have some around so thought this was a possibility.
Bark looks whit okish but so does sycamore. Now that I think about it I don't recall ever seeing a dead one. And yes it does dry to a rather light weight as they are common along waterways.
Appreciate the feedback - guess I'm getting better at this! I also notice that sycamore typically has more white-ish bark especially towards the top of the tree but I have seen around the base the bark is much darker / tighter similar to the image I posted of the remains of the standing lower portion of the trunk. Thanks all.
I always look at a picture before I read what anyone thinks it might be to avoid bias. First thing I thought when I saw this picture is that it looks exactly like a dead sycamore tree growing along my creek.
