This was dropped at work, but not by me I run the mow crew during mow season. Boss let's me take home the soft woods we can't sell for firewood.
I was expecting this to be a type of pine but it has 0 smell and is not sappy and splits real stringy.
    My guess is River birch?
I don't know my birches very well

Could be river birch. Only have scored it once. Popular yard tree as its fast growing. A few rounds had punk after only 2-3 months. It was not easy to hand split and dried super light. I wont take it again unless I have to.

Yeah, could be river birch. Which is a hardwood, but don't say anything to the boss. Lol

I've never burned it though, only paper Birch here and I like that stuff.

    It's definitely denser than pine.

Judging from your pics I would say it is River birch.

Looks like long dead red pine. It’s pitchy, dense and kind of stringy and really surprisingly decent firewood.

dried up old pine pitch circled in red. IMG_4691.jpeg IMG_4692.jpeg
