    I'm in central NY, based on what's in our wood lot my best guess is beech? Doesn't look like the red maple we have a lot of, hoping its not poplar...

    Looks a lot like the bigtooth aspen (poplar) I just cut down and split at my sister's house this afternoon, except mine wasn't red in the middle.
