    Cut this from a dead tree, no bark. At first I thought it was elm but then started to rethink that. Thoughts? Fresh split it was at 22% moisture.

    See lots of those around here in IN. Not many elm trees left after DED wiped them out years ago. They burn great and the tops are usually stove ready when they look like that. They tend to leave clunkers in the stove if you burn a lot of it.

    What part of IN are you from?

    Agreed it elm. I love finding standing dead elm. It is normally ready to burn, and the best part is no to little mess when you bring it in the house.

    Red elm. Can definitely tell by how stringy that is... I still have 6 big rounds of red elm needed split an stacked it's a good burning hard wood....
