Oh yeah, silver maple. Very good shoulder season wood. Dries quickly and usually splits easy. However it's known to have it's gnarly pieces too! I've actually had some all day burns with silver maple in my catalytic stove.
Agreed.... really lit up the secondaries well when I had to temporarily run a loaner tube stove here last winter....
My vote is for silver maple. Just CSS 2 cords worth that was dropped on my property by a tree service last year.
Cool, I have a couple cords of silver maple already. All the silver maple I have cut is much smaller and the bark appears much smoother.
