redoak5.jpg redoak4.jpg redoak3.jpg redoak2.jpg redoak1.jpg Driving near my house, I had to detour thru an upscale hood nearby due to road closure. I see a tree service with a full dump trailer. I ask if they want a free place to dump. Yes, we do. Follow me - dump in my side yard. They said red oak? Thanks, Doug.

I'll go with Cherrybark Oak (southern red variant).

That's some sort of southern variety of red oak.

Yup, red oak of some sort.

Good on you for being Johnny (in your case Dougie) on the spot for asking.

Cant tell you how often a detour or different route has yielded a wood score for me.

Think these 4" rounds will dry in 2 years? Or need to split thinner? Thanks, Doug

Given your climate I think they'd be good but it never hurts to expose the inside to air to help it dry faster. 4" is about my cutoff for leaving or splitting in half.
