I have a wood ID question, again.
I saw a CL ad that someone is giving away firewood because his landlord is sealing the chimney. He said he doesn’t know what type of wood is it but he purchased it in December. Can you tell what kind of wood is from the pics?
I don’t want to get it if it is oak since I don’t have space for storage. I can only store what can burn in the current year (next year).

I hope you do a better job of covering it than that guy did. But for sure, get it!

I just picked up one suv full load from the guy.
It really indeed mixed species. I can tell black locust from how heavy it feels. But majority of it, I think is not black locust.
There is one species that is abundant in his stash that I cannot determine. It looks like black locust but lighter.
    I attached the pics.

Thick bark and deep furrows makes me lean towards oak for the second set.
Second set of pictures I would say it is not black locus. I don't see the color change between heart and sap wood like the black locus around here.

The texture of the grain and light feel of it makes me think that it is not black locust. But I am just a newbie.

Re-split a piece or two of the thicker wood in question and get us a pic or two.

None of it looks like oak to me.
Especially the ones that look like lattice pie crust.

I used oak and black locust so I know they are not like them.I never used elm and by looking at elm bark pictures, I am thinking it might be an elm.

    Here are some more pics.
It is definitely not black locust or oak or anything good I think. It is the worst firewood I have ever used ( I just started this year lol).
It burns real fast like a paper and leaves a lot of ash! I don’t know what it is but definitely doesn’t worth my effort to go all the way to Brooklyn to pick it up from a brown stone building.
