Any thoughts? Growing next to a dead ash tree. Leaves are very similar to ash but bark is different. Very soft when cutting and dark heartwood.

I have a guess but would like to hear from others first. 20220622_195049.jpg 20220622_195045.jpg 20220622_195027.jpg 20220622_195011.jpg

Because of the 11 leaflets and lack of serrations I’m not sure what it is. Leaves appear to be too wide for Pecan.

The bark pic produces the same result on the app.

Butternut is not what I was thinking but that makes sense. Other butternut trees nearby. Would have been easier if I had just waited until the namesake seed pods started to grow!

It's called PictureThis. Can be used free, don't enter the trial period, use the cancel “button” on the top right to open the app after clicking on the icon on your phone. If you want to unlock more features, you have to $$.
