Tree of heaven. Chip off some bark and smell it. If it smells like rancid peanut butter that's it. I had posted a similar thread which is why I recognize it now.
Ailanthus...AKA as tree of heaven. Invasive weed tree, low btu. Good for shoulder season. Splits very easily. Not something ill take unless easy to grab.
Any wood is good firewood! hahaha! I only had a few rounds of it (maybe 5?) but haven't burned it yet. I trust what buZZsaw BRAD says so in other words probably not worth it to climb up a 40ft incline hill to get it....but if someone were to dump it in my driveway, I wouldn't say no. It's very straight grained and I thought it was quite heavy....but that was green.....so I'll have to see when I get to burn it.
Well to be honest not really, but it burns better than snowballs. Heavy when green, feather light when dry. Will dry fast under ideal conditions.
It dries fast and light, burns longer than expected for being so light. I'd say its probably close to silver maple btu wise.
