Need help identifying what kind of tree this is from the type of bark. I just got permission from the neighbor last month to cut down dead trees and trees that are down on his 15 acres. Theres no leaves on it. Its very dead and appears very dry. Thinking its some kind of maple? Just wondering what type before i drop it.

Could you snap a pic of the crown? That is, if it’s still there...
But yes, it’s fine for firewood if’n it’s dry.

In my opinion...red maple. Can you peel off some bark and give us a peek at the wood underneath CaptainNemo ?
