I'm not sure, I'd like to say its Hard maple. Since the area has a lot of those, but I'm kinda of lost.
I think you are correct. I just went out to a property that I got permissions to cut on. Its sycamore tree had the same bark. Oh well burnable wood.
Not sycamore. Edit: just seen a couple pics that match. Does not look like my southern grown sycamore.

Yes, the confusing problem with common or local names and not the scientific one. You and I can easily have the same name for a completely different tree.
I think it is American Sycamore. Check out this picture: You can see the typical white Sycamore bark on the upper tree, but on the lower trunk in my picture you see rougher bark like the round in the OP. I found this picture on the internet and there are lots of similar ones out there. Also, the large size of the round suggests Sycamore too. European Sycamore (Platanus orientalis) is related to the American Sycamore (Platanus occidentalis) and is not a maple. There is a tree called Sycamore Maple which is called Acer plantanoides or something like that.
