Wood I.d. please

Can someone identify this wood please? I thought it was ash judging by the bark but after I cut it has a reddish color in the heartwood. full]256113[/ATTACH]

 

CaptainNemo Do you have a pic of the inside after splitting? The first pic reminds me of box elder.

 

It looks like Manitoba Maple - Box Elder to me. That red stain is caused by a fungus.

 

The bark peels off like willow. Is it heavy or light? Meaning hardwood or softwood? Bark sure looks like willow.

 

I'm betting box elder. That's the only one I know with that bright red center. A split picture will tell for sure. I've got a couple of old ones by the creek with bark that looks like that.

I agree, box elder.

 

You don't want that stuff in my opinion. Im never using Box Elder again. I'll take Cottonwood as long as it's free, but never again am I wasting my time with those trees.

 

Not sure but this is a willow tree pictured.
