I had this idea earlier today. I picked up some fresh Italian bread, cold cuts and fresh cheese. I started the oven with maple splitter trash. I did not need the usual 1 hour firing like pizza. I just need a 20 minute quick fire to toast the top of the sandwich. Some split locust fence pieces on standby. I split the whole Italian loaf open, put pizza sauce on both sides. I layered salami, mortadella, sautéed mushroom, fresh mozzarella and parmesan cheese on each side. Into the oven it went. I had the angle iron in place and had to add pieces of firebrick in front of that to prevent the bread from burning. I turned the sandwich around a few times until the mortadella started to curl and the cheese started to brown. Nice cooking shot. Once toasted and bubbling, I flipped the top oven and brought it in to go with some cream of tomato, tortellini and ground sausage soup that the wife made. The easy chair is calling.
Not only am I dripping from my cold, now I am drooling from fishingpol's pics. Really nice cooking shot indeed!! By the way it rained here all day.
