A Buddy who is a tree surgeon was called to the end of my block to take down a Big Oak, He guessed to be in excess of 300 years old. Sadly, it was still thriving but was buckling the house and foundation, so the owners had it cut down. :(:(:( I climbed this tree as a kid and it was huge then! :jaw: So, as I was at work and after he gave out what was promised and what he sold, I came home to a "FREE" couple loads to fill my driveway.
I didn't ask, but he's a nice guy  and knows I burn. I called him to say thanks and he said the wood fairy was the culprit! So I just left it at that, Thanks wood fairy!!! :D

Hum my parents never told me of such a thing. I'd rather them left Santa tooth fairy etc.. out and just told me about the wood fairy. So how's it work? Do I need to leave a split under my pillow?

I'm all about free firewood, but it's so irritating when they just free cut it to every length under the sun. I had a guy once give me a bunch of wood (very, very grateful) and was all proud that he cut it up into 12" lengths. The vast majority of mine is cut to 30" so 12" pieces are a huge pain the the rear. End up handing it way more times than normal and it's a pain to stack.

True story. I just processed some maple I had from a removal. My chunk and ugly pile is tremendous. Every time my son and I get a piece like that we look at each other and say... who cut that sh*t!

And it can go the other way too. A couple of years ago a crew got together to cut wood for a family going through difficult times. I think we had seven saws running and one splitter. We were instructed to cut 14" pieces. When we hauled it back to house, the wood that been split went into the wood shed, the wood that only needed split went to east and the wood that needed cut again went in a pile to west. The pile to the west was huge with many 36" long or longer. I think several of these guys rarely ran their saws and may have never cut firewood.

I'm not picky. Free is free and it very rarely comes that way! o_O I'm healthy "for the most part" and always get my own but if it comes different lenghts, so be it, I'll cut it to needed sizes. BTU's is BTU's :D
