Just talked to my wood fairy. I use to get a semi load of logs for free, Now they want $400-$500 for a delivered load of logs. He said a semi load is about 6 to 8 cords. I got about 7 out of the last load. I don't know if the price is worth it.
He is going to talk to the boss and see what price he can get me. May have to start felling my own trees. Wood hoarding must be becoming more popular in my area.

Wow you were getting semi loads for free? That’s pretty cool. I always cut my own but would def take a free semi load.

Was it trash trees they were just trying to get rid of?

Not trash wood as I would call it, but not gored Sawyer logs. 80% Ash with the rest being Maple, Oak, Walnut and a few other species. Sounds like my free ride is over. I kind of figure that the graded logs were sold and I was getting leftovers from the clearing project.
Anyway I don't feel that $500 for a semi load is not bad.
Could happen. I have one monster tree to bring down and another one that is at my limit to feel good about felling with my skills. Ther are about 1/2 dozen others that I can drop.
GTG? Possibly could happen if I get a semi load. There would be enough logs for all to get their bucking addiction satisfied. If Walt has one next year, maybe tack onto it and have a couple of the more experience people fell them big trees. Walt has already said to give him a call when I am ready to fell.

Tri Axle is what I told Wood Fairy to price. The Semi load took me a little under a year to process. Of course I was laid up the first 5 months of the year.

$100 a full cord around here is the lowest you'll find.

If you're getting 7 full cord for $500, better grab some now and again shortly after!

    Agreed.
Low grade pallet and tie log prices are the highest I've ever see right now and may hold for awhile. Those high prices take a lot of material out of the firewood market and jack pole firewood prices up.

At $100 per cord, and then you still need to cut, split, and stack it, I would wonder if it makes more fiscal sense to order 7 green split cords? Then you just stack it.

My wife keeps books for a logging company. When they have to hire a third party to load a semi the cost ranges from $50 to $125, depending on how remote the landing is. Trucking for firewood (just the loading and trucking) is $250 to $300. They currently are getting $100 to $105 per cord, including trucking.

I didn’t take it as you personally, I just meant people in general as you mentioned. Free wood from work is nice! If your work ever has “too much” wood feel free to ask me for help! CT is a small state.

For sure that would depend upon the price.
