I have been using windows 10 for a couple of months. Things were going well until last week. Edge stopped working, so did the start button and Cortana. I had to reinstall windows ten to fix some of it, Still can't get Edge to work (Microsoft's new integrated search engine) Also can't get any new Microsoft Apps to download. Did a lot of digging on the net. This is a COMMON problem. Came on in August. Still no fix sent out. I would strongly advise waiting before going to windows ten if you haven't already done so. One of the most upsetting things was having problems getting to "OneDrive" their cloud. I have my documents parked there. At least I can still get to it from Android. This is the warning I get when I try to use Edge:
Edge is their new browser. Your issue with the "cloud" is one reason I won't use it. MANY problems (not just my opinion) in 10. Just say no.
Interesting Larry, I use chrome, no problems with win10. Yesterday my husband used my computer and pulled up several windows using edge. He found what he needed but when I pulled up chrome it would not work. Did a disk clean and reboot and chrome worked again.
Interesting... I just got a new laptop with Windows 10 on it yesterday. Trying to get this thing figured out, thanks for the heads up...
Thanks for the info Larry. That is perhaps the main reason I did not go with 10. Better to wait until the bugs are worked out.
When Edge was working, I would get occasional messages that a program couldn't open because of not compatible issues. I would go to chrome and have no issue getting where I wanted.
I've been wondering how 10 would turn out at first. My home media PC told me last weekend that the upgrade was available for download, but I'm going to hold off for a while until the bugs get worked out.
Bugs, more like Gremlins! All raising hell. I saw Micorosoft advertizing windows 10 on TV. I couldn't help but wonder how they could do this in light of this far reaching problem they are having with Edge and their platform failing to function. I did a search on this problem and found several sites full of complaints for the very same issues, yet nothing from Microsoft acknowledging it.
I have movies and video's and my music stored locally on external hard drives that I can stream to my TV. Eventually I plan on adding an antenna on the roof so I can record live TV to the PC and use it like a DVR.
I updated to Windows 10 and I really prefer Windows 7 but everything seemed to working fine. I thought I had the no auto update button checked but when I got back from my trip, it must have updated. Now my Homegroup is gone and I can't seem to create it again. I had four computers connected using Windows 7. Installing Windows 10 on one of them didn't seem to make a difference until this week. Any one have any suggestions?
Whew!!! I managed to fix my HomeGroup problem. Now if only my computer would quit disconnecting itself from the internet. Gotta have my FHC fix.
savemoney have you tried using any other browsers like chrome or firefox? I have win 10 and haven't had any problems but I only use Firefox and my wife uses chrome and we haven't had any problems. I don't use edge or any of Microsoft cloud storage.
Yes, I have chrome, but that won't sicronize with Cortana. I do use explorer. I often run two engins at once on two screens. I also have firefox for a back up. Edge was intended to blend with a search engine and the operating system. I can't see the advantage to 10 when that won't work.
I have only had one major issue with Win10 to date.... And it's a biggie. The universal driver for my desktop's wifi card doesn't work for chit. I get dial-up speeds and it's frustrating as all hell. And guess what, nobody offers an updated driver for it so I am stuck waiting for an unlikely update or I need to replace the wifi adapter with one that works. Or just wire the house for data..... Hmmmm.
I won't do the alleged upgrade or downgrade to Windows 10 as the case may be. There are far to many bugs plus I am suspicious of anything that is offered for free and then they try to force you to take it. I also have my doubts that all of my programs would continue to work under Windows 10.
