So when we got our tax return back last week I joked that we "needed" to buy another gun with part of the money. Of course I was shot down immediately.

Fast forward to last night and I get in my truck leaving work, turn the key, and there's nothing. I was pretty sure the battery wasn't dead since I've actually somewhat expected this to happen at some point because I've started my truck a few times in the morning and noticed my radio has reset so I know there's a weird gremlin causing the truck to lose it's battery connection for no reason. So I call my wife and tell here she might have to drive 50 minutes downtown to pick me up after she gets the kids. But a few minutes later while I'm sitting in my truck deciding what to do, the open door chime starts randomly working, so somehow it found it's connection to the battery and I was able to start the truck and drive home.

Anyway, I get home and my wife starts complaining about my "old" truck that always needs work. Its a 2005 Frontier with 178,000 miles. I don't really think it's that old, and most of the work is typical things like brakes but there have been a few electrical issues that have showed up recently.

At the end of my wife's rant, she tells me that I just need to sell my truck and get a new one. And, in her exact words "Don't go and buy something new-used that you find a "great deal" on! Just go pick out what you want at a dealership and buy it!" I've always been against buying any vehicle brand new, but when the wife tells you to I'm not sure what else I can do lol!!

Lol no. Most likely an F150 crew cab, probably with the 2.7L ecoboost. I might check out the Nissan Titan HD with the diesel but really I don't need anything that large. I'd get another Frontier or Tacoma if their fuel mileage wasn't so much worse than the new 1/2 tons get. I REALLY still like my Frontier, but I don't trust it anymore and 16 mpg is just pathetic.

My '09 F150 has been great for the past 90K miles. Ford really makes a good truck these days.

If you get the EcoBoost, I'd be interested in hearing how you like it.
Wife and I will be vehicle shopping and that's on the short list.

I'm pretty sure that was it. My negative cable clamp was as tight as it would go but it still could easily be slipped off the battery terminal. So I put a lead battery terminal shim on it last night.

Now I just need to replace the wheel speed sensor cables to get my 4x4 working, replace an O2 sensor to get rid of the check engine light, pull the dash and crush the "low tire pressure" light that's always on, and then replace the steering wheel since the leather is peeling away. Hopefully after all of that I can sell it privately and get a little out of it.

On my work van(08 gmc 2500) I found that too much air is also a problem...
I've heard that some cars have a tire sensor on the spare also...
just thinking out loud here, bass

I actually took all of the sensors out, so I know why that light is on!! I had 3 bad ones when I got new tires about 6 years ago and didn't see the point of paying for something so stupid and then having to go to the dealership to have them programmed to my truck. They don't throw the light until the tires get down to 25 psi and I'm pretty good about checking my tire pressure, I rarely let them get below 35 psi.

Really....how difficult is it to check tire pressure? I had those on an '07 Jeep.
    Pressure gauge is $5.
    I'll stop.

Don't rule out used - you can either save some $$ or get more truck for the same $$ vs new.

I've looked. It seems like 2015/2016 used F150's are holding their value pretty well. Plus out of the 100 or so I've found around me used none of them are configured they way I want and I'm not willing to compromise on those things to save a few thousand.

But I do typically agree with buying used. I got my current truck loaded with options when it was just a year old and paid 70% of what a new mid-level truck would have cost. If a used F150 pops up in the next few weeks the way I want it I still might jump on it (even though my wife forbade me to buy used lol).

    Great news!
Now go make sure that you have enough wood for a few years...3 or so. Once you get a brand new truck, you won't want to haul any firewood in it for awhile!! And when you do start hauling again, it'll just be little baby loads!!!!

I've had a Ford pickup with an ecoboost engine since 2011 ( 3.5 liter). Been good so far. Doesn't get as good of mileage as they claim, but if I was looking for great mileage I would buy a Prius!

If the spare is full size, and I do believe it is on the frontier, it will have a sensor in the spare too. That's usually the culprit.

    New 2016 supercrew f150 xlt 4x4s are $20,000 at a local dealer. Pretty sure that's a non ecoboost 3.5 v6, but that's a smoking deal.

Put the 2.7 ecoboost, or the 5.0 and that would be seriously having me double check my thinking.

I need a truck, and for that money that's crazy.
