Back from a trip that saw me travel 3000 miles in 11 days. Went to FL to work and run a hunt test with my dog..............then to NC to visit a good Bud for 1.5 days.............then to VA to visit my cousin for 2 days.................then the drive home yesterday.

-4*F when I got home last night around 7pm......................been running the 13NC hard since...................house is now about 68*F............................had the natural gas furnace set at 58*F while I was gone. As I said; -4*F when I got home...............woke up to -11*F................did 2 reloads durning the night to try to warm the house.

    Slowly but surely..............

Why not just let the NG furnace get it up to comfortable while the stove gets going? It is fairly cheap right now, no? We've all been there but why risk damage to the woodstove? The furnace needs its exercise too!!

By "wide open" are you saying you have the air on the 13 open all the way?

It takes time to warm everything in the house; not just the air. In your favor it is beginning to warm up outdoors now so you should be comfortable very soon. Glad to see you made it back okay.

I have come to appreciate my furnace quite a bit on these really cold nights. On the coldest nights, I will awake to 66 degrees inside; I reload the stove and turn up the furnace to 70 - it usually only takes two cycles before the stove is maintaining the 70 degree temps and I can turn the thermostat back down to 65. Gives my furnace a bit of exercise and makes it more pleasant in the house.
