Talked with the guy who’s going to install our septic system…

“you looking for hard wood to make into firewood?”

yeah…. I found a guy north of us but it’s 200 miles to get it down there. Some really nice oak etc…

“why didn’t you say so…. I’ve got four project from 8-20 acres each right now and I’ve got no one close by to want the wood. You pay to truck it to your place. You can have the wood.”

how many cord you talking? How far we trucking?

“probably over 1000 cord this spring and no more than 10 miles from your place you just bought…. I’ve got stuff like this scheduled for the next 8-10 years.”

    Anyone want to buy a 2016 Volvo VNL730 and a 2021 XL specialized XL80MFG?

That’s an unfathomable amount of firewood. How long will 1,000 cords last in the Minnesota climate? ;)

Sounds like you should be set for wood going forward.

PS, it's Cord, not "chord" if your talking about wood. ;)

I am not interested in the truck & trailer but you can drop off that S790 here though…

    Exactly what I was thinking.
I don't even use 5 a year in Wisconsin, and that would last 200 years for me. I think he's looking at selling firewood in the future.

I think his plan is to sell firewood. Lots of it.

Yea, when I sell the truck after my guard retirement kicks in in October 2025, plan was to supplement my income with firewood sales.

I sure wasn’t looking for a source for 2000+ cord a year though.

I thought I read somewhere that firewood was going for around $400 cord in Minneapolis.

I was considering just enough to keep me busy with something like this…

I have a 3-4 year plan to transition from being an owner operator to firewood processor.

this was a shot out of left field though today.

    he’s got a construction/ septic/ tiling/ farming operation.

one of the largest excavator I’ve hauled. Considered a 30 ton machine I guess.

he’s not even interested in my trailer because his smallest machine needs a 50 ton trailer and mine is only rated for 40 ton.

    I was considering 200-400 chord a year.

There's a couple real nice ones in Wisconsin for sale. A couple nice used processors too.

With the 1 year wait on most machines like this, buying used makes even more sense, although this one even with a few add ons is a bit over the original price. Not certain if eastonmade are in USD or loonies, their site doesn't mention it, but I know they are made in Ontario.

I don’t even want one with an engine on it really.

my plan was to hook it into the hydraulics on a skid steer.

26 metric tons I believe. What ever that figures out to be in “real” tons

Either way, it’s considered a “medium frame” machine even at 60,000 lbs.

Is it a take all or none thing on all that wood?
If not and you can just get what you realistically want/need, after the truck and trailer sell, take some of that $$ and get a good 16 ft dump Trailer, a good small dump truck, and a grapple for the skid steer and a fancy pants splitter or smaller processor.
With access to that much wood that close you can easily get all your willing to deal with. The money you save on freight will help pay for the toys…. I mean tools.

It almost sounds like a good business opportunity if the wood is really there.
Might need a saw mill too:emb:

That much wood I'd be looking at a mill and processor.
No way I would be physically handling wood on a splitter at that volume.

Oh yeah absolutely not a small piece of equipment. That is just how excavators are rated the cat 345 at work is considered a 45 metric ton unit. I think the ID tag says it is 105,000 lbs
