    Or smaller.......

Who uses them? In pa, it got cold, but nothing like up here. Once we see -20°F outside and the wood stove is cranking full time, our humidity levels get really low. Cracked skin and the chance for colds increase. We've already put 2 gal pots on the woodstove and run a small humidifier in the bedroom at night, but i'm interested in something a little easier, 6+ gallons, filled once a day that can keep humidity around 40%

Who uses one and how does it work for you? I've read that the heat is better with added humidity.

    Here's a few....

Good questions WS. Wife complains every year how dry it gets, even though I go through 3-4 gallons of water every 24 hours on the stove.
Seems like there was a thread about this recently.

We add a quart every time we reload the stove. Keeps it just right in here. If we get behind we add a stock pot until we catch back up.

We've tried a few in the past, but our natural humidity is low to begin with, they didn't have any effect. Don't think they put out enough to make it noticeable.
We just warm up water in a big pot on the stove when it gets really dry. And yes, at least here, extra humidity does make the house feel warmer.

I've tried cool air mist humidifiers and hate them. The mist falls straight to the ground so doesn't do much good and irritates the heck out of me when I step on a damp floor with bare feet. I like the warm air humidifiers. However, I like my air dry so only use small humidifiers.

I need something desperately. I cant breathe at night with the low humidity. My sinuses swell themselves shut while Im sleeping, or my nose becomes completely blocked, and I need a pick axe to clear it out. I have a big stock pot on the stove, but its just not doing the trick, low slow shoulder burning probably isnt helping that.

I am strongly considering the one in my first post. Never bothered me before until this year

Ive been getting worse and worse for the past few years. This year its already pretty bad. I like the whole house idea, may just need a small one for my bedroom, as we usually have the window cracked to keep it cooler in there with the stove going. I just need to get my wifes blessing on appearance first, and where we would put it.

I gave up on them and use an aquarium (free from Freecycle.org ) A couple years I ran both a console humidifier (3.5 gal) and the one that Locust Post posted, His is easier to fill, and Mwalsh9152 , it is a good looking unit, has a marble tile on top, tall and thin so it takes up less room than the old console type. Anyway I had to refill both of them minimum of once a day, easier to do water change now and then on Aq and refill with a sink hose than hauling pitchers of water everyday.

So how do you like it? Someone posted the mist drops to the floor but I have never seen this with the Honeywell tower.. The filters don't last too long though.. How is the Essick holding up? I see Amazon carries them..

Haven't really run it yet, not dry enough to need it. Did give it a test run for a couple hours in Aug. when we bought it and I think it will be good. I never had any issues with our Honeywells dropping mist.

My house has the opposite problem. I can't get rid of moisture quick enough.
I'm running a dehumidifier for 18 hours a day and it's just about keeping a level reading of 60%.

Why? Because I live in an old (165 year old) woodland cottage that has no damp proofing and worse, the cottage is situated half way up an incline! :picard:

Moaning aside, I love where I live and running the Multi-fuel stove during my first year burning wood has so far been an absolute pleasure :yes:Love it!!

I bought the one in the Amazon link a ew posts up.

It works well, but it's loud on anything but the lowest fan setting. The humidity sensor isn't even close either, I have it set to the max setting to keep from shutting off.

It works though. On low I still put 3.5 gallons of water into the air a day. I use a pot on the stove in conjunction with it to keep the house comfortable
