Anyone been out deer hunting lately? Was wondering what state and if anyone is seeing any sign of the upcoming rut? Haven't been out in a while and the temp in northern illinois was in the upper 70's today but supposed to fall With a high of 46 by Friday.

It's coming.....had three bucks playing follow the leader. They were freshening up scrapes as well. First week in November should be primo!

It is starting to pick up but hasn't really hit yet. Talked to one of Ohio's deer biologist and he said it is always right around the first and second week of November.

Usually here in NE Ohio the prime is Nov 7-14 but we are seeing early signs of it. Same as most years, the smaller bucks are out looking first. Had a buddy of mine shoot a great buck on Saturday here. The buck was just out cruising.

Its starting to happen in SW Indiana. I saw a bunch of dinks up cruising at mid day. I also had a few shooters magically show up on camera last week at night but so far, no daytime sightings yet. Hoping to take Friday off and be in the woods all weekend.

I had a new shooter show up too, this week I got 1 daytime pic of him right before dark so they are starting to move more!

One of my neighbors friends shot the 10pt I was after yesterday. He was chasing a doe so I'd say it's on. Too bad that took the wind out of my sails :(

Good part of it is that he now has no buck tag and more than likely won't be back.

Slow slow......even though I have seen some nice bucks killed. The moon has them moving at night, I can hear running when it's dark up in the woods. I am normally covered in my woods, but I think the does are laying low because of all the little bucks I saw last Friday. I took the morning off to get some done around the house, I don't feel bad about I have been hitting it hard and haven't had one big deer sighting. That's hunting! Good luck

Slow for me here but had some friends that really had a lot of buck activity. I had a small 8 point running does on Thursday around me.

Alabama has the strangest rut period(s) mine is mid-late December some counties don't see a peak until late January.
saw a swelled up buck in Louisiana morning before last - decent 8pt wasn't on a hunting trip though

The Rut is on time here. Bucks are moving with a purpose now. The change in the weather will make for a good hunt this coming weekend.

Hunted a different property last night and had two doe in font of me at about 50 yards that wouldn't come close enough to shoot and the a 4 point comes up about 25 yards from my stand and lays down for about 20 minutes before getting up to continue grazing. Never once do he do any more than look over his shoulder at the does.

Wow what a hunt tonight! It's started off with me getting a late start bc my wife was getting groceries. I almost didn't go since it's warm and deer might not be moving, but decide heck it's the rut. Got halfways there and realized I forgot the key to my stand. There's a few yahoos that hunt the same farm and have no problem hunting in my stand. So I just lock them up. Err that really bothers me, disrespectful. So I decide to just go out and put up another trail cam instead of hunting. But when I get there I see the farmer just cut the corn! Now I gotta hunt, deer have been hiding in that corn all year. So I planned on just sitting on the ground but couldn't see anything so I climbed up and stood on the seat all night.
:doh:I have the platform locked up to the seat so someone can't hunt comfortably out of it, or really safely for that matter. But anyways I was excited so stood on the little seat for a few hours. And man am I glad, saw a lot of deer activity and watched a bruiser tend a doe all night. She ran around all night but let him breed her 4 times. And he never left her side. I rattled a bit to see if I could get his attention but he never even paid any attention.

That was a fun night! And the rut is on!

Didn't get to go tonight and probably won't get to the rest of the week thanks to work. I went out for 3 straight days and never saw I sign in spite of seeing a ton of deer. I am sure I will miss it as usual :headbang:

There was talk this past weekend that they still aren't totally in the rut up here although they have to be darn close.

On a side note, I saw in the paper today that a 185 lb. 8 point doe was shot this past weekend. Unusual for a doe to have that big of a rack. Most of the time they are still in velvet but this one wsn't.
