Thanks to all who voted white oak on my thread yesterday. Went this afternoon and bucked the big trunk. I think this was too big for Mr. Mingo. Split and took only he knot free sections. Couple with a knot or two. Had to noodle one log to quarter. The rest were done with the isocore. Half cord PU full. Wasnt going to take any chunkies but had room. There has to be at least a PU full of white/red oak and hickory uglies between the three areas. IMG_1390.JPG IMG_1391.JPG IMG_1392.JPG
Some of the uglies left behind. IMG_1393.JPG
Pile awaiting splitting at my friends IMG_1396.JPG
Pile of hickory ill split tomorrow from same area. IMG_1394.JPG
Sugar maple from last week. IMG_1395.JPG

    You got firewood stashed everywhere!
When you start using Michigan to hoard, let me know.....I only charge a smalllll storage fee. In firewood.:dex:

I think the best wood where I'm at is sugar maple.

Primo BTU’s there. If I have red or white [or any] oak on my radar, everything else can wait!

That’s right SD Steve that and Ash. I’ve never cut/burned any Oak. Had a couple limbs of Locust but not really enough to notice the difference.

Glad the white oak won out. You have really been busy. One day I will get to hoarding again. My sheds are getting empty.

Cut a bunch of it last week. Great btu's and fast to season. My problem with them around here is most of the trees i score are yard trees and knots galore. Scored a nice straight one back in September.

I wouldn't leave those chunks and uglies behind. I'd rather have those than a bunch of pretty splits of a lesser BTU species. It all burns.

I couldnt agree more but i have maybe five cords of nuglies and am tired of making bins for them. Space is getting limited too. In a couple months if im jonesing for a score i could go back. The other guy was leaving the gnarlies too.

I see what you are talking about. Thats a hickory cookie, the "blood stain" was the wet end and maybe some leaf tannins or something?
I wasnt going to take any nuglies, but had the last 8-10" of empty space before i close the tailboard. Didnt feel like noodling any either. Saw was getting dull and it was getting dark.

Those look like they were stacked up next to a major slaughter. I hope whatever was butchered was stunned first. LOL.

What kind of wood is that ?

The rounds are pignut hickory. I noticed a lot of the little brown areas in the ends. These are little knots from when small branches died off and were healed over. Cant say ive ever see any that concentrated before. The splits of the end pile seen are white oak and hickory. The stack covered with plastic is mostly white oak.
I was splitting some a earlier and had to use the Isocore on it. Rain came down too hard and i called it quits. First couple were really tough and i questioned whether i shouldve taken it or not. Not too bad after that.
This pic from Sunday prior to hickory being stacked there. The white oak on the far left was SS Monday and hickory took its place. IMG_1362.JPG
