Gotta love the friends that think of you when they are cutting down a tree. He felled the tree, bucked it, loaded it up in his truck and drove it to my place. My 2 boys had a blast helping us unload and stack with us and a good neighbor of mine came over as well. Then a couple of cold beers. Good stuff.
Awesome! Yeah, best to get that paper birch split & stacked pronto! Of course, you already know to keep the camera handy for that....
Love it man, he did bring his chain saw In case we wanted to chop up some of the smaller branches, but by then the cocktails came out. Lol
Absolutely Eric, wanted to take another pic with the boys as they were stacking but they really got into it and forgot to take more pics. Lol Will be sure to take a pic after all is split and stacked, curious to see how much is there. My buddy also told me he's got a nice maple he wants to have dropped this summer and I'm welcome to all of it. My Bride thinks I have a problem!
Yep...please remind your lovely bride it's the other people who pay the man for their heat that have a problem....
Oh cool! So this stuff is good firewood and i got one in my driveway thats a nuisance! Meeebe ill knock it down.
That's great that your boys helped with the stacking. Tell your bride that so long as she is not the problem, you are in good shape. (I hope she has a sense of humor?!)
East coasters might think of white birch as medium quality stuff, but it's some of the best wood I have access to.
im thinking close to a face cord, love it. Can't wait to get it split and stacked. Still have to split some more of that oak I scored a few weeks back as well. and have to build another wood rack...
Yup. Its gold around here as well followed up very closely by larch in Eastern BC. Im out of birch for the upcoming year which makes me a little bit sad.
You may know this already but when you split it keep any of the bark that falls off and put it to the side for fun and games around your outdoor fire pit. My kids love taking a bit of birch bark, throwing it in the fire and letting it wrap itself around a poker stick. It clings to the stick and turns into a torch.
Also I've told several folks about how we have many times (especially when our kids were young) taken birch bark (it has to be trimmed carefully) and used for paper for writing notes, then send them through the mail. At Christmas time we'd also use glue and glitter to make Christmas cards. They were always appreciated.
