Which power supply to charge up your cordless device

    Anyone knowledgeable about electric? Actually, rechargeable cordless devices. I have (too many) devices accumulated over the years that use a power supply. When I buy something I try to remember to label the power supply as to what it goes to but sometimes I forget. I have such a device right now and I can't find the power supply so I can charge it. I have probably a couple dozen power supplies! But which one could work?

    This device I speak of (a cordless guitar string winder gizmo kinda like a mini-drill), the only thing written on it is "4v" for 4 volts.

    As I said, got lots of power supplies. Just grabbing one here, there is...

    INPUT 100-240v ~ 50/6oHz 0.6a
    OUTPUT 14v --- 1000mA

    I assume that this one is not a near enough fit. Again, the above is just a random example of what can be printed on a power supply. Assuming that the jack fits the device, what number are you looking for to find one that won't burn up the device? I dunno if that is a concern but don't want to do that if it is! These handy little winders have gotten too expensive, lol, don't wanna fry it.

    The power supply doesn't push power into the device, the device draws power out of the power supply. Generally speaking, as long as the output voltage of the power supply is correct, the device may "burn up" the power supply and not vice versa. Your risk is if the device draws more wattage than the power supply can provide.

    The power supply may be able to survive by dropping voltage output, and that could lead to a burned up device, but it is more likely it would just fail first.

    You just want to make sure the voltage on each matches and the amperage output of the device is higher than what the device draws.
