Just curious what age or different ages various things made you feel old? Was it hitting the big 40, your kid started going gray, you started getting AARP brochures, started losing your hair, blew a disc in your back, asked about the little blue pill, got your first social security check, arthritis set in, ect? Honestly, I don't know why but if I had to pick something, it was somewhere around 42. No big medical thing, already had been made grandpa for a few years and at 40 felt fine, just all of a sudden it was like at 42 a check your youth light came on for me. Now for years I have just embraced the kranky old man role, I always knew I'd get old but didn't know it would happen this quick.:BrianK:

Ya, I was young for so long it finally caught up with me. Getting into the truck after a long day of work can be quite the struggle. My water valve doesn’t want to open and then doesn’t shut off.

I would have to say when my COPD caught up with me. With that there was more hand more times when I would have to take more and more breaks to catch my breath. And then there is my bulging disk in lower back that causes issues with standing and walking. Kinda sucks to get old doesn't it.

If I was bein' honest (which I try to avoid) ... I'd say old manitis started creepin in around 50. Now, I get enough daily doses of cuffed head when I start thinkin' "Oh, I can do that"... :picard:... then I settle back into that kranky old man role too... ;):BrianK:

JRA decades ago as a little kid, different rheumatic symptoms my whole life always there but tolerable, I did not understand others did not feel the same pain. 2004-8 it all came back in a different rheumatic flavor and by late 2008 I was out of commission. No cure but some medicines have helped me stop hurting as much. So, that would be age 36-/+ . Sucks, I was good at what I did and really liked it.

Yup I hear ya. What medicines seem to help? I'm looking for something better, much better than gabapentin. That stuff is making me trip over my own shadow.

I just told my younger brother recently that the difference in the way I feel at 49 vs 40 is quite noticeable.

Are you osteo or rheumy?, and I'm sorry. Early on doc started me on a strong nsaid, clinoril + high prednisone. Then I moved on the Methotrexate (oral) and tapered down to a low dose of prednisone. MTX I had 3.5 good days and 3.5 bad days per week on that, and it's lethal for pregnancy though I was already premature menopause (ya, damm crap damaged the baby making parts, thyroid and busy on others). So, went off the MTX, and God Blessed us despite less than 5% chance or both conception and carrying. and started Plaquenil, it works well for my suppressing my over active immune system, I am down to 99* on it and joints and fatigue are a little bit better, and I don't lose 1/2 of every week like on MTX. I also use Voltaran topical here and there, but way under the maximum doses when needed. Silly, I forget about it till I REALLY need it, but it helps when I am flaring. Backwoods Savage has used it too.

Screwloose , ask your rheumatoligist, there are so many meds and biologicals that have come out in the recent years, I wish I recalled the couple different ones that worked well for my dad for you to ask about. He was pure RA. Also there is a fire chief here, I can't remember his name, hopefully someone will jump in with his screen name.

I'd have to say that once I het 50, that's when I felt old as the body was starting to give out and recover more rapidly. Eyesight, stamina, joints, blood pressure, back issues that I had neglected. Just took longer to recover from heavy exertion tasks. Bending down was a big one and by the time I was into my mid to late 50's, it was on my hands and knees for any low type related work.

I have both osteo and rheumatoid and fibromyalgia and some spinal thing. My wife gets to poke me twice a week with humira and methotrexate, oral prednisone, gabapentin and lord knows what else is in the bucket-O-pills. Also had some topical cream, doc said rub it on the pain. Thought it was strange that it said to wash hands thoroughly after applying especially since I put it on all over like you'd seal a driveway. Yeah.....not what the doctor had intended, the one and only tube.

Oh No, I'm sorry!! You are a walking autoimmune train, not fair  I'm on simple older meds, grateful for them. I am so tired of taking pills, dumb but true I get pizzed off having to take them every morning and evening:loco:  and I don't even have to do injections. Hang in there!
Gotta love our gene pool. Crazy, my funky gene is from the good side of my family tree.
