I started a fire this morning to take the dampness and chill out of the air. Just before noon it started warming so it is a bit warm now. But, we're expecting a couple nights in the 30's this week. I do not think those 6 splits on the porch will be enough.

So, when will the last fire be this year? I am hoping nothing after this week.

There used to be this season called "spring", where you could sort of see things gradually warming up. These days you can never be sure whether it's going to be winter or summer from day to day. The last time I had a fire was on May 1, and this weekend ended up being 10-15 degrees warmer than predicted. I'm getting out the shorts.

I haven't had one in a couple weeks but after a wet cool weekend, I'll probably build small one tonight. Highs have been in the mid 60's, lows in the mid 40's coming up.

Right where I want to be.
Had a fire last night while watching Game of Thrones, then started another this morning to take the chill and damp out.
We should be getting pretty close to done, but I'll burn as long as it's needed.
Had a first this morning, when my wife's dad mentioned being warm and took off his sweatshirt. He's usually complaining about it being cold......even when it's 75 in here.
It's still warm in here, but not uncomfortable, as the stove is still kickin' out some heat from the 8 a.m. fire. I might have overdone it a little.:D

And I'm way down here. Surprised when I see folks from way up north talking about the last fire of the season. I assume they have alternate heating sources.

It was chilly here this morning , I'm near Backwoods Savage , but it sure got warm and humid fast. I'm thinking tomorrow night I may start a small fire , upper 30's , but we will see.
Of course my buddy burns year round non stop , OWB for hot water. I can't fathom why tho? :loco:

Cleaned and gussied up my stove weeks ago with all the nice weather we had.

But it hasn't been out of the 40s today, windy and damp and its suppose to get near freezing tonight so I will rub a couple sticks together and put a small fire on tonight.

Been at least 2-3 weeks since any heat has welled up from the basement. Back porch says 90* F in the sun. Humid. Not cleaning the ash outta the stove til June 1st. As Shawn Curry said, you can never be too sure what the weather will be like, at least until June here! Kinda hoping you don't post any pics of those winter gams, Shawn:rofl: !

I have a fire going right now. It only got up to 50 today and was drizzling all day so no heat from the sun at all.

We've been running the wood boiler just in the evenings & overnight for hot water & the warm house that we have been used to all winter. I think that ended this past weekend. Kinda think we're either spoiled or wussies! After sleeping all winter on top of all the bedding, I needed my "blankie" the other night with the window nearby open.

    Yea
Small 1/2 loads at night. 40°s.
About to call it over & let the furnace run in the morning a bit,
Gets overly warm by noon if/when the sun makes it out.
But it is nice to open the doors then.

it's been in the 80's and hit 90º the other day but cooling off starting tonight. Calling for 36º Wed. night but our stove is cleaned out so the NG boiler will have to handle any needed heat. If I didn't have that I would likely be lighting a fire a couple nights this week. Just took the cover off the pool today right after hauling home another load of that nasty black locust. :D

$5 bucks says you can't jump in your pool and remain submerged to your neck for 5 minutes! Sorta like the Ice Water Challenge... We could all do this and you could put any money (if you can do it, that is) towards a fund for the family you posted about in your "Prayers Needed" thread?

It got chilly in the house last night so I closed all but one window and lit up some chunks in the stove
I could turn on one or two electric heaters close the windows and be just fine but why?
That's what I have a wood stove for, pretty easy to throw in some chunks sticks or uglies and light em up, if I need heat I burn wood up :fire:

Locust Post- I shoulda rechecked your profile @your avatar- 55 is little old to be jumping in what, maybe 45-50F pool water? Still, I thought it was a good idea.... You got that NG boiler hooked up to an exchanger for the pool? You could make bank for a challenge, we'd be none the wiser:rofl:
You could do:shiver:, and :bug:, with a little :jaw:, with the pool secretly heated to a comfy 75....
That, of course, would be dirty....

This is the latest " last" fire of the season ever for me.:hair:
