What's your favorite 2-stroke oil?

Ive been using Tanaka for several years and I love it. Seems to burn cleaner and seems to offer more power. That last part may be in my head . I also appreciate the fact that it's a 1 mix ratio for all equipment. I don't have to keep more than 1 container for chainsaw, weed eater or other equipment.


I was talking to a buddy today and he was singing the praises of Klotz 2 Stroke oil. Claims "all" of the 2 stroke racers use it and oddly enough, said it smells great!


What's your go to oil and why?

 

I like the Lucas semi synthetic. It is cheap and the saws perform well with it.

We love the smell of Klotz. It takes you back to the dirt bike days long gone by. Saw motors don't have enough load to properly burn this erl. This is a Jonsered 2150 I recently took apart after using R50 for about a year or a little less. Saw had a proper tune and was mixed @ 40/1 like all others I've used. If you think of using it, do so sparingly not regularly. I now plan to use Echo Red Armor for a while to clean up all the crap I'm left with. It has a reputation of cleaning carbon deposits.

 

I just use the cheap Pro-Mix brand that I pick up at Lowes. One mixture fits all. It works for me, YMMV.

 

I use the Klotz. Oil is for protection and it does that job well.

 

I've been using it for 3 or 4 years now. Best oil out there for the money. I was using Stihl ultra, and am paying a LOT less for Lucas... And carries a better JASO spec to boot.

 

New to the forum so I'll start by saying Hello.

I flew ultralight aircraft powered by Rotax and a Hirth for years and used Pennzoil for Air Cooled engines. All three engines looked great at every 50 hr inspection up til the time I sold them at 300ish hours. I have used it exclusively in all four saws I currently own. I have a Hardy OWB heating a 3400sqf home so I burn 10-14 cord a year depending on species. Saws include 3 Stihls and a Husky. The 361 and 391 see the least use and are the newest. The primary saws are an 028 AV Super (side adjust with chain break) I got second hand 11 years. This saw was like new when I bought it. The second primary saw is a Husqvarna 55 Rancher I bought new in 1997. I just went through both, getting them ready for the next good freeze or a dry spell so we can get back in to our cutting spot. The Stihl looks, well, super. Nice and clean. The Husky as a little carbon scoring on the piston on the exhaust side but cylinder still has faint cross hatching.

I might try Blue Marble in the Husky and see what kind of build up, if any, I get during the up coming cutting season. Snowmobilers seem to like the stuff. Not sure why the Stihls seem to be so clean and the Husky is getting some light carbon buildup in the exhaust port.

The Husky has seen some ethanol fuel in it's early years but I've been running ethanol free after I had to put a set of crank seals in my brother's 026 Pro. Although I'm not sure how, or if, ethanol used that long ago would make any difference. ETA: 50/1 is what I mix up.

 

Oh man an oil thread. Everyone loves there oil. I have used royal purple synthetic for the last 2 years. I like it for the color, feel, smell and I have not had any problems with build up. I mix it at 40-1.
There are a lot of great oils out there. Stihl worked very well but was too pricey for me.

 

Been using Opti 2 for 10 plus yrs. and like it.

EXACTLY. Good clarification. My brother and I settled on a 50:1 mix. When we first started using it we mixed per instructions and ran it that way for a long time, then a fellow saw guy asked if we had ever done the math on our mix ratio. YIKES----kinda scared me to be running that little oil, but no damage that I can tell. Just makes sense to run a bit more oil and I feel better.

 

I have a mate that uses the leftover 2 stroke race fuel from his Grand Prix bike in his Husky 365 special. 110 octane, $10 litre, with caster synthetic oil. It smells great cuts even gooder but is a PITA to start.

I used to use the opti, but blew up a 55 rancher and a 365 special.
No more husky, no more opti....

 

Belray H1R - 40:1. Been using it for about 1.5 years now. I tad pricey but I like it. Cheers!

 

What ratio? I ran the Husky xp, even milling and it did great. Tore down after a season and found plenty of lube inside. The stuff choked me out though. Nasty!

 

Yamalube 2R mostly or Belray H1R, both @40:1. I have no actual proof that these work any better than anything else. This is just based on builders' recommendations. I once tried Amsoil Saber and I just hated the smell.

 

I've been using their semi synthetic, but it's not great smelling like the amsoil Sabre.

Mills fleet farm sells the amsoil Sabre now.
