I was looking through some of my pics, and came upon pics of a load from my tree guy from last winter. Took a while to ID it, but we determined it was Yellowwood. Very slim native range, but used as an ornamental tree

Smelled absolutely identical to a fresh cat box when splitting:hair:

Split easy, and has dried pretty quickly (the smell has also mostly gone away  ). I use it in the outdoor firepit

    Some pics :ithappened:

Anyways, what kind of strange/uncommon woods do you have in your stacks?

    Buckthorn apparently.
Otherwise, its pretty standard stuff. Mulberry, Oak, Ash, Walnut, Honey Locust, Hard Maple, Cherry, Apple, Birch, etc.
I do have a wood from a bush that has an awesome looking blood red heart wood. I think its an evergreen variety, but other than that, I have no idea what it is.

    Wet.
    Couldn't help it. Honest, I just couldn't.
The stuff in the shed is dry, and so is the majority of the wood in the field (until it rains).

Nothing that uncommon. Was supposed to be getting hedge, which is fairly rare unless you're a farmer. I want some ironwood, but I have never seen it.

A couple sticks of sumac (not poison). It's just 'filler', like oatmeal in the
    meat at Taco Bell.

Box Elder. Three pickup loads. Free. Don't think I would have taken it without owning an OWB. Wouldn't mind a bit of woodworking with it. Seems like it might be "gopher wood"...I'll let you know when I run into it during the burn season.

Maple, for now. Had to buy some last fall. Since I've taken wood on our lot, it's all been ash and red oak.

Everything in the stacks came from my woods, or my neighbor's. Almost in direct proportion to the species I have back there. Mostly soft maple, little bit of poplar, good amount of ash and black locust. About the only thing not represented is black cherry and black birch.

The only 'uncommon' stuff I have, is some Ailanthus/"stinking sumac", and some mystery wood I believe is cottonwood. They're in my processing area now, but none of that is going into the stacks - it's all going to my buddy's house for campfires.

"Blondewood" plywood from lowes smells like this when cut. It's disgusting!

All my stuff is standard stuff for around here. Only out of the ordinary (for me) that I had last year is some apple tree parts.
