Winter boredom has set in.... So I thought some might want to discuss what species you have in your stacks now...? I'll start with a SWAG on what I have in my stacks at the moment. Maple is going up and red oak is going down. Red Oak = 35% Red Maple = 25% White Oak = 10% Aspen = 10% Tulip = 5% Hickory = 5% Red Elm = 5% Locust = 5%
Red oak, white oak, birches, basswood, shagbark hickory, maples, ash and little elm and black locust, oh and cherry
Popular and ash from a building lot I cleared two years ago. Got paid to clear the lot and was asked to haul all the wood away. Ended up with about 60 face cord of firewood and two loads of cedar logs. This was the biggest tree on the lot. The new house is being built now. The wide open space you see out front is Lake Champlain.
99.95% wood, 0.05% chipmunk nests. True, but just joking around. 4-5 cord of oak (mostly red, but some white) 4-5 cord of maple (not sure about exact types) The last few cord are a mixed bag. Some birch (white and black), poplar, hickory, dogwood, hemlock, etc. I am definitely a scrounger, so I take what is available. Luckily I am far enough ahead that I can be a little more picky than I used to be; not so much on type of wood, but about the size I am willing to deal with. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ash, White Oak, Red Oak, Shagbark Hickory, some sugar maple, silver maple, little bit of Mulberry, Walnut, some Elm, a little bit of cherry, Poplar and some other old gray stuff, Don't know what that is, burned up all the Cottonwood and pine
Vast majority red oak to season another 2 years ( 7 cords) and about 1 cord of rock oak).....2 cords of ash (1 year to season)....have about 1.5 cords of black locust n 1.5 cords red oak totally seasoned
I have about close to 2 full cord of red oak C/S/S since Feb 2017, a face cord of white birch C/S/S since June 2017, a heavy face cord of Black Locust C/S/S since Nov 2017 (hoping to get my claws on more of this) And have 2 face cords of delivered ready to burn (I hope) firewood. I have burned through about (2) face cords of firewood in my fireplace already this season.
Pine,Hemlock,Soft Maple,Sugar Maple,Beech,American Hophornbeam,Yellow Birch and some Cherry. We did have a f/c of Oak from my only scrounge but that will be gone by about the second week in February.
I always thought you only burned locust... 20 cords from one score!! My hero... You can always spot a west coast or east coast guy with that question ... Nothing wrong with beech, one of the least messy firewoods in my opinion.... Limbs don't bother me either! Walnut!!??? i would have burned up all the cottonwood first also... Nice selection for sure..
Yeah, Walnut, it was all cut up when I got it, saved some to make small stuff , it makes heat and smells good burning
