What's a good wood rack for my hearth?

I've used those amazon ones with the canvas liner with handles on it, and while those totally work, they seem more designed for casual wood burners, and when I stack mine up for a day's worth of wood they end up comically overloaded.

I have what I would say is a "normal" sized hearth. So I don't have room for a gigantic wood rack, but I would like something a little bigger and more robust than the amazon special. Any thoughts?

I'm kinda liking a wooden box.
Take it out in the Spring and dump all the fines out in the garden and keep the box in the garage until Fall.
Basement stove doesn't require a nicer looking box that formal living/family room might require.

I had some slightly punky dead standing oak for a while and box helped cut back on my sweeping up. Not all of it, but enough to slap a box together.

The last thing a tinder date ever sees hahahaha.

I don't have measurements of my hearth but basically ^^ something that size except maybe not a galvanized steel thing. I like the volume of wood that can hold though.

If the size is what you want, the galvanized steel can be painted.

Repurposed 2 x 2 x 4 stock tank. A soaking vinegar wipe down, some paint and you’re good to go. The boy did the same but 6’ instead of 4’ and built a simple frame to sit around it and hide the metal for his girl.

I am jealous, really nice-looking decor you have there.
    Every wood hoarders dream.

I made a box from Hemlock off the mill , with the two dogs I needed something with a lid.

Got tired of hand-hauling wood from the outside rack. Have used this for a while and love it. Amazon.com.

Ditto! After a few years of the tires constantly going flat I replaced the dolly wheels with solid rubber ones and don’t have that problem anymore.

The type you currently use with the handles is for lugging wood around, but not really to store it if I'm understanding you correctly. You need something stationary to park on or next to the hearth, right? I made my rack out of free shipping crate wood and slapped it together using whatever screws/nails I had on hand. I did end up buying a black plastic tray to park it on (not shown) to catch the crumbs as they accumulate below. One day I might sand my rack a bit, scorch the wood with a torch all over and apply a liberal amount of polyurethane to it, to make it less of an eyesore. You get the idea though. No need to break the bank here, if you're the thrifty/resourceful type.

I have an IKEA thing that I found on the side of the road:

Allows me to let wood warm up (from the cold garage 2 wk rack) for a day or two before loading it in the stove. With a one-space rack (one stack in the rack) that's harder (grabbing warmer wood from the bottom or having to put new wood on the bottom).

Thrifty and lazy at the same time....

Yup, an old cleaned up water tank. We’ll need pictures of your new digs.

Do you know what these were used for? Laundry, or drinking water, or?

Those new digs unfortunately exist only in my mind! But who knows what the future may bring?

On the farm growing up we boiled water and dunked our geese into them before pulling the feathers

I used plywood and 2x3's to make a rack for our space.
It is flush with the bar behind it.
It holds tools we need near the stove.
There is a shelf inside originally designed for newspaper, but now holds gloves, sweeping brush and a lighter.
The lid is not tacked down, so I can get to the farther reaches of the shelf if need be. That could get a hinge.
It also serves as additional counter space for the kitchen (NYE snacks and dip being consumed for breakfast here today).
It holds about 24 hours' worth of wood on the coldest days.
It's temporary, but like Eric, if it were permanent, I'd definitely re-sand and find a finish for. Also same as Eric, scraps from other projects.

I'm going to re-do the kitchen at some point and move wood storage to under-counter type space. I like this rack, but it does eat up space. I move it out to the barn during the summer.
