Farmers Almanac says more of a typical winter this year. With cold spells and snow projected. Pellets at or above last seasons starting $$$ and Fossil fuels seem to be holding steady. What y'all gonna run with?

I'm all electric so I'm sticking with pellets. No other choice for me besides some firewood for emergencies! All Electric crowd seem to be the pellet guys niche? Maybe I should look at investing in a furnace or a heat pump........

Probably 85% pellets, rest forced hot water/oil. T-Stat starts the shutdown at 10:45 PM and starts up at 5AM. We set our bedroom t-stat (oil) real low overnight, usually use an electric blanket on super cold nights. The only time we use any appreciable amount of oil is if we go on a trip....
Haven't turned on yet, not expecting my pellet delivery for another 2 weeks! I have enough pellets at the bottom of my 2 bulk bags to last a couple of days.

I would need to start a new thread for additional choices. Didn't want it to get too busy. More a fossil to pellet comparison. Added an other JIC some might take another route. Guess I should of added a "pellet and wood" as I an several have the wood as an option.

I'd like to go heat pump in the future and use pellets or wood as a filler in extreme cold. If pellets prices get much higher, It might be sooner than later.

Expensive propane here (yes I know, the rest of the country it's cheap). Plus, FHW is only run for upstairs. Will be running all pellets. Will use a little propane for DHW and to run the FHW a couple of times a day during really cold spells (pipes run thru garage), or if I go on vacation.

Oil and pellets. With oil price still low, we will use it more liberally than usual.

Probably the same as last year 70/20/10, pellets, oil and wood.

Those numbers are subject to change based on what Mother Nature and OPEC have in store for us.

Currently estimating 85/15 pellets & oil here - but depending on the severity of the winter, oil use may increase by necessity: to keep the mechanical systems heated in the crawlspace.

I figured you'd be CL it for one? Even if its only an option down the road. I bet you already got pellet storage all figured out!!

BTW, How'd you get over the sickness? :hair:

We'll stay with the normal format. Pellets (voted) with a supplement of wood(couldn't:confused:) in the wood stove for those below zero nights.

Perhaps that lowes deal would suit you.

I should also mention probably 95% pellets 5% electric space heaters as needed.

Can't get it here. Best option for me would probably be a cheapie used unit off CL. Don't have a big place, so something small would do, but again, the price I pay now for propane and a 95% AFUE rated gas furnace means the cost for each is very close. Not having to store & lug bags, or clean the stove makes it a no-brainer for me, at the present time.

If they made a hopper extension for that puppy I would be all over that deal. But in your situation, I would do the same as you.

Luggin bags helps keep the beer belly trim! :D

Jealous pete, I'd jump in if it was going to be = or less $$. Keep the pellet as backup/filler. Likely go heat pump if we stick here. But got a feeling we be snow birds at some point.
