Several White Ash seem to have fallen on my property. And all today? So I cut them to nice, convenient lengths and stacked them up.
Thanks. A good bit of work to bring them down, trim them up, haul them out, cut them to length and then pile them.
I figured something like that. Very nice looking wood. Nice pictures too, I love all the green east of here.
Hey I got a load of wood needs moved, bring that equipment here, Gasifier I pay in cold beer Sound familiar?
If I had a way to mill logs, and a place to dry & store it, I'd be squirreling away ash tree slabs. Who knows what they might fetch 10 - 20 years from now when the supply runs dry.
Right now, I have access to tons of dead ash. There are huge trunks too, not that I could process those anytime soon... My question is can dead ash still be used for lumber, or is green preferable. Some of the ash in the pile may have been barely alive, dying, before it was taken down. Can I use some of it to make a handle for a small hatchet head I found in my yard?
If the tree has just recently died it can still be used. Especially for a hatchet handle. As far as lumber goes as long as decay has not begun and bug damage is not into the wood. I think EAB usually does it's damage just under the bark. So the wood under the cambium layer could likely still be good. And most important of all things. Cut it, split it, stack it, and keep it dry. And it is always still good for firewood! Even if you can get it into log length and keep it off the ground you could use it in years to come for firewood.
