If that was on the east coast I’d call it pin oak. I’m not sure what grows there, but it could be a planted pin oak.

It’s got fat rings like many of the red oaks.

Could be a pin oak. One of the more common yard planting oaks. Pin oak has the strongest "manure" smells of the red oaks IME.

It was a yard tree in a nicer neighborhood. Didn't notice any manure smell but I was only quartering to make the rounds moveable. Tree was already down and bucked. I'll chop it up on wednesday and find out then.

Usually it is. An unusual 5 half cords of oak this year. I've been limping along trying to get to my goal of 19 half cords of wood by March. The wood has been scarce for me, either posted in a day I can't get to it or just crap wood posted on days I can. Even took a chip drop of some nasty noodling redwood. Ever burn redwood? I'm there though, finally. Now I just have to figure out how to dry this oak in 7 months or I'll have to sell it as green. I was thinking a space heater and some type of box around it with venting. A poor man's kiln. Any ideas?
