what kind of oak?

    Scrounged an uprooted tree off the side of the road. Anybody know species? It's not in my field guide and can't find it in my tree ID app. Closest I saw was blackjack.

    Looks like Southern Red Oak, but could be Northern. Need to see more leaves. Bark looks northern and the 3 pronged leaf makes me think Southern.

    I’m leaning more Northern after looking at the leaves more thoroughly.

    There can be a bit of leaf variation in oaks, especially southern red oak / spanish oak.
    Without seeing the flowers and nuts I think southern/spanish oak is a good guess.
