I almost hate to ask but what is the advantage(s) of the 562xp over a 25 year old 371xp?

    562xp vs 371xp
    12.6 lbs vs 13.0
    4.6 hp vs 5.4 hp
9600 rpm peak power vs 9600 rpm peak power
14000 rpm free vs 14000 rpm free

Am I misreading specs, i.e. old hp vs new hp measurement, or is there more to this?

I don't have experience with either saw, but the newer one is about 10cc smaller displacement which explains the HP difference. I would guess it's also easier on fuel. Are you asking about peculiarities not conveyed by the specs, like size or ease of working on?

More curious than anything over the hubbub in the one saw thread. It looks like a big jump over the previous generation of the same class but don't think I would step down even if my 71 blew up on me. Other than the evolution to conform to EPA, I'm not sure what has really advanced in the last couple decades that would matter to the average guy cutting firewood?

Now same or more power and a half pound lighter might get my heart racing a little.

The 371xp looks better on paper, .8hp for an extra .4 lbs.

Sounds as if the main advantage, from the user's perspective, is that the 562 isn't 25 years old.

The advantages would be the lighter weight and FAR superior AV. I kid you not, that is the smoothest running saw I have had my hands on to date. The other big advantage is the 100% performance level every single time you pull the rope. The new AutoTune and Mtronic saws are a real step forward in technology, not just an emissions band-aid. Speaking of those kinds of leaps, the smaller displacement and stratocharged engine tech is going to use a noticeably less fuel than that 371XP.

Now, the big disadvantage will be the loss of displacement/power. That can at least partially, if not fully be made up for by an expert woods port job. Having run stock and a TLandrum (Wicked Work Saws) 562XP side by side, I can say I'd be hard pressed to pick up a 371 over the ported 562XP for a days work in the woods. That ported 562XP will cost more than say, my MS441C-M, (assuming the saw was purchased new) but will be much lighter and rival it in power. If you were keeping the bar size to 20" then the decision is even easier.

Run an IVT with auto steer and you'll laugh the next time someone tells you row croping is work.

Big horsepower/features are having their way with farming here too. It's one thing when its making/saving you money but I don't need a payment book to get my work around the house done. The basic solid machines of the past few decades do just fine for me. Doesn't mean I don't like playing with the new stuff every time I get a chance though.

The advantage is you own it and it's paid for.

Puts it in a true perspective. (money $$$)

Chain saws cut wood, Now & 25 years ago.
Hard for most of us to wear one out so the
"World economy" runs on convincing us we need new stuff.

But the 562 is just sweet looking ;) they have me almost convinced. LOL almost
My time on the saw in a very small % of the time invested in my wood stacks.

My 20", 359 still doing fine. Though it don't look as cool :zip:
