Most of my personal splitting is done with a fiskars x27.
Was at work today where we normally use a splitter. But I hate using the splitter and found this gem in the barn. I love this thing and think I wanna buy one. Anyone use these?

Honestly a splitter hurts me way worse than swinging

Lol you're only as old as you feel.

That said, swinging a maul or axe isn't the best way to split wood

What kind of splitter, and how are you running it? There's many ways, and we're pretty opinionated about them. Lol

Horkn at work we have 2 hydraulic splitters. They're decent. Though I couldn't tell you tonnage or brand. I've tried both horizontal which I'm very slow at and really don't like, and vertical. I'm faster at vertical. But the crouched position or sitting hurts my back so bad I can't do it for long. Im 33 and I was keeping up with the maul. A 46yr old on the splitter. Anything without knots or crotches or stringy .axe beats a splitter Everytime for speed. The nastier wood splitter is faster. We were splitting silver maple, honey locust, cherry, tulip poplar, and ash yesterday. Gonna bring in my x27 and my homemade maul and a wedge today to compare to the monster maul

Well I brought my x27 into work and split side by side with the monster maul. Never thought I'd find a better splitter than the x27, but I preferred the monster maul had the wife order a truper brand 12 pounder

Fiskars makes a Maul as well. My X27 has been getting dusty since I got one.

I have seen those used before but after just a bit of altering them. Usually, a minimum 1" sized hole is drilled into the handle. Placement of the hole varies but no closer than 20" from the head.

Then, a heavy water resistant rope or is some cases a chain or cable is attached to the hole.

Now, carry it and place it inside of your fishing boat and voila! You have a new anchor! You're welcome!

I've got the same maul, but the road hasn't been too kind to mine. Mine belonged to my grandfather so it has sentimental value for me. My splitter gets plenty of use, but I still use the maul on occasion. If I score a roadside load of large straight-grained oak the maul is perfect for busting rounds apart before lifting them.

A more commercial unit that you use while standing, with a log lift is the way to go.

A 100k wood processor would be nice lol.
Unfortunately I can't tell my boss what equipment to buy.
Anyway my last winter at this job so all my splitting will go back to personal use wood which I will do by hand until I'm physically unable

I have a SuperSplitter, but every once in awhile I like to bring out the Sotz and whack the crap out of a log.

I also did a video about the Sotz company history you may enjoy!

To each his own! I used a splitting maul until about 63 years then went hydraulic. Still do a small bit of hand splitting but the hydro is the way to go for me! Wish I had changed years ago!

Thanks yooperdave I need a storm anchor for my small boat. I will keep a weather eye out for a Monster Maul!:salute:

Well yeah, a processor would be great, but it's not much of a jump to a unit with a log lift from even a residential unit, at least not like the jump to a processor is:thumbs:

I was just messing with ya.
Yes I agree a log lift would be nice.
I glanced at the bosses splitters
    1 is a 25ton country line
1 is some old red pile that I engine swapped with a used predator motor from a power washer last uear
    I still prefer by hand

I have a big red maul. I used it when I started cutting wood. I don’t use it anymore , it makes my back and shoulders hurt and it’s not that productive. I would much rather use the fiskars x27 or the Isocore maul. I use the fiskars when out getting wood. I prefer using the hyudralic splitter to hand splitting.

    Mine came in today.
    It's a truper brand.
The head is shaped slightly different than the sotz monster maul.
    12lb made in Mexico.
This maul doesn't swing as naturally for me as the monster maul in the original post.
But I still think it will make a good splitter with some time behind the handle.
For 67$im pleased. I love the simplicity of all steel tools.
