The last year has been a home repair nightmare. Long story short, we bought my wife's grandparents house from their estate. In the basement there was that scary heap of old rugs over boxes of siding scraps left from 1967, that we just ignored. I had to rebuild the steps going down to the basement because of a major remodel and with the stairs out of the way it was time to clean out that tight scary spot. After moving the siding, I notice a shape covered in old newspaper and dustand said no way it can't be. Carefully uncover and brush away and not only is it, but it is 3 stacked into each other. I have always wanted to get one, but to get 3 and they are family hidden heirloom-awesome!
I also have the large sized and the number 2. As you can see, the number two has a chip on the rim. The larger one is at the cottage. I use them to set next to the wood stove for kindling and small pieces.
I have a medium sized one but it has a crack down the side supposed to be great for fermenting pickles pretty sure it is a 5 gallon
My wife collects crocks. We must have 10-12 of them in various spots around the house. Mostly for decoration but we have a few on the kitchen counter for utensils.
Okay. What are the different size crocks used for originally? I have my crock pot, but aside from it, I am ignorant.
stoneware crocks predate refrigeration and were used to store foodstuffs, butter, salted meat, fermented/pickled vegetables. Probably dry goods as well. Some are quite old and have collector value.
I have a few My parents have many. Here's one we got for our anniversary. Don't think it's collector value
