Well I'm finally in need of more 2-cycle oil after my 6pack of the Stihl stuff ran out. What do you guys run? does it really even matter? I feel like any oil Stihl makes is just overpriced but I got an extra year on the warranty for my saw buying a 6 pack of it a while back. I do like the 2.6 oz little bottles to make an easy 1 gallon. I don't go through gas all that quick as much of the wood I get is already cut to length, so I'm only mixing 1 gallon at a time.

I always look at the fact I spent a lot of money for my saws. $2 or so for a bottle of stihl oil is cheap compared to a rebuild on a saw.

for 2cycle oil I'd be more inclined to agree than say bar oil. I got totally ripped off for a gallon of Stihl bar oil (around $20) and I said never again. At least the 6 pack of of 2cycle will last me over a year.

I hear ya on the Stihl bar oil. It used to be reasonable but as gotten nutz. My Stihl dealer sells this and is what I have been running the last 6-7 years. Nice and tacky. About $10.50/gallon . I won't use the farm store brands. To thin.

I run 91 non ethanol gas in all my small engines. Fortunately we have a few stations around town that offer it.

Doesn't need to be a full synthetic to be good. Semi synthetics actually protect against internal corrosion better than full synthetics, as not all the protective qualities have been refined out. Echo Powerblend, Echo Red Armor, Amsoil Saber, Yamaha 2R, Dolmar Synthetic, Maxima K2 and 710, Klotz Original Techniplate. Even the Wallyworld full synthetic air cooled oil in the gray bottle is good stuff.

I use Amsoil Saber at 45:1

Lucas 2t, Yamalube 2R, Supertech, or any 2 cycle oil that is for air cooled engines. *

*Caveat is H1R. I've found it difficult to tune, seems to do fine once dialed in but is finiky and too expensive for the hassle.

I like saber because it turns the fuel bright blue. Its my favorite color and does a great job. I don't like the 100:1 gimmick though. 40-50:1 it does great.

I get saber for $11.99 a quart and my local auto stores have lucas for $9.97

ETA: h1r works it's best under load ie milling. Normal bucking and firewood cutting it doesn't have enough load to work as well as it can ime. You'll see its praises sung by RC plane guys because they're run WOT. For chainsaws there are better options.

I use stihl in the small bottles. Having the right amount to mix in my 1-gallon can is very convenient. Switching to a cheaper oil would only save me a couple of dollars a year at the rate I burn it.

Oil is cheap compared to a new saw or repairs. Using husky xp now but there’s been many others over the years.

    Agreed..

The Lucas semi synth is good too, but I prefer the amsoil sabre because it smells great. Like racing gas in two strokes. The Lucas does not smell good at all when running the saw. I don't run the sabre at the 100:1 either. I run it the same 50:1 as all the other oil.

Ever tried to run it at their recommended 100:1? I'd personally keep it 50:1 but curious what you find with their recommendation.
