A couple of weeks ago a friend and I went fly fishing for a couple of days. The scenery is so amazing I thought you all might like to see some pictures. We were very lucky that the weather was so nice. More often than not we are in winter mode by then. Sure was nice having a shore lunch and enjoying some rainbow trout action on the fly! Even though the weather was nice it didnt get much above 5 c so we needed wood. This is a forest fire of red cedar. I dropped a few of these off the bluff there. We ended up taking some home with us and when I checked it on a fresh cut split my moisture meter was reading under 5%.
When releasing trout its so important to do it right. They arent as rough and tumble as a bass! six weight rods The ones that made it in the boat came home with us or were our shore lunch. Also the one Im holding up by the gills if being released would have its body fully supported.
The first one are two nice sized rainbow trout that we caught on a double header. The last one is a picture from our campsite looking down at the lake. We had a skunk wander into our camp while we were sitting around the campfire one night. Luckily no one got sprayed! Thanks for coming along! d
Simply beautiful scenery, Sean. And the trout look very nice, too! And wood to boot! A great trip for sure.
Thanks. Ive been going there for years. When we were there the lake was deserted except for a bunch of bugling elk!
Awesome pictures! I am a fly fisher too. More saltwater for striped bass though, with a 9-10 wt set up with a disc drag reel and a lot of spool backing. I do fish the local ponds and streams with a 6 wt, but nothing like what you have up there.
Nice! that sounds like fun. Ive never been saltwater fly fishing but would like to. Ive seen some neat fishing shows of casting to kelp beds for salmon off the west coast. I have a 9 weight st croix that I use for bass fishing and bull trout. The bull trout (char) get quite big around here but the biggest ones Ive caught were around 30-33 inches. Its been awhile since Ive got into any of those big boys though.
With our cold weather it should freeze soon. Its a pretty big lake so takes a bit longer than others. Ice fishing season on that lake opens December 30th I believe.
