I haven't investigated yet, but an entire row out of 3 fell over! My only guess is maybe that portion of the skid rotted!
I feel your pain my brother. It happens to all of us sooner or later. It's not a matter of "if" but "when."
I heard a 'thud' last year after the heating season. A week later I discovered it was part of a stack falling over in the shed. I've noticed that my stacks tend to shift a bit due to shrinking as it dries I'm guessing.
I've got one set of skids being prompt back by fence post. They've been slowly trying to fall for over a year... Sorry to hear that, WS. Happens to the best of us...Then they all end up as Ash's....
I would punish those splits with my wood stove. They'll never do it again and it makes an example out of them for the rest of the stacks.
Cow tipping?? "Dog standing" is popular around Rabbit Hash but I've not heard of "cow tipping" Dog standing: Taking road kill dogs, or other small animals, before rigor sets in and posing them in unusual poses such as hitchhiking, waving etc. Once rigor has set in the dead creature is propped up along side the roadway. Some have gone as far as to dress the dead creatures in various costumes. Causes quite the traffic slow-down! I guess ill be stacking this weekend. I wonder if it was an amimal. I prefer using epdm, but on this was a tarp. Perhaps water started settling in between the stack on the tarp creating enough pressure to push the row out. No matter what....... it sucks.

Sorry for your pain. Does your local community have a MWFO support group? If not, you might want to get one started. The trauma of your stack falling can leave deep scares to the sole. No one should ever go it alone during these dark times. That is where MWFO comes in. They sit around, drink coffee by the fire as they punish the offending splits and talk about their troubles with splits.
I'd go with that WS... water can get more than heavy enough to shove those over... here, use my post... ...
